A journey into the soul of the railways – my new book

July 18, 2014 Blog, Uncategorized

I’m just back from writing the latest chapter for my new book on the cherished icons of our railways and why they run so deep in the British psyche. It’s to be published by Penguin Random House in Spring 2015. Yesterday I was on the legendary Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, closed in the 1930s, but now gently being reawakened from the dead by volunteers. The picture is at Woody Bay on Exmoor, the highest point in the entire Southern Railway system.
