Great day yesterday taking our Bedlington Terrier Alfie back to his homeland in Northumberland to join a doggy line-up to celebrate the opening of the new Bedlington station in Northumberland.Alfie was Number 5 in the race for the first 25 dogs to get there for the prize, thanks to the high-speed LNER Azuma trains. We blearily took the red-eye from King’s Cross. Credit to Alfie who was brighter than me in the early morning!
Railways often get a bad write-up. But here was the best of things – with the opening of a new rail route out of Newcastle through a neglected area of Britain. Also to LNER and Northern Railway teams And Alfie had a great doggy day out!
Bedlington has iconic status in the history of the railways as the site of George Stephenson’s famous factory, where the first rails were forged.
Picture shows Alfie being welcomed by delightful Northern Railway staff.
